Comparing the image against error correction data

This function provides information about image and error correction files which are already present on your hard disc:

1. Select the files to compare (1).

Enter the names of an image file and its corresponding error correction file (as described in steps 2a/2b for creating the image and error correction files).

2. Invoke the comparison (2).

Click the "Compare" button. This process may take a while as both files need to be read completely (but no changes are applied to them).

When the comparison is finished, you get the following information:

"Image file summary" and "Image state". The number of missing sectors will be above zero if the image contains still uncorrected read errors. In contrast the appearance of checksum errors is usually the result of incorrect handling or hardware problems.

"Error correction file summary". This field shows the settings used while creating the error correction file, and whether it can be processed by your version of dvdisaster. If the error correction file does not correspond to the image file or if it is damaged, warnings are printed beneath the last four entries.

Additional hints:

  • The results of the compare are unreliable if the image has been read in by a software other than dvdisaster. Especially, all missing sectors will be classfied as checksum errors if a different software has been used.
